Chris DuCharme
Carpenter and Cabinetmaker
"Chris
DuCharme, a one-time boat builder is a superb carpenter and cabinetmaker
who takes great pride and pleasure on his work. Whenever there is an odd
or difficult task at hand, you can count on Chris tackling and conquering
the challenge at hand.” Says Steve Wauson.
DuCharme completed much of the exterior carpentry as well as many of the
exquisite details highlighting the interior trim of the Buckeye's home.
Chris’s many years of experience has allowed him to become not only
a versatile carpenter but also to gain excellent problem solving acumen.
With Alain Gueneau he installed
window jambs, siding, tongue and groove soffit, along with column and
beam caps and details, and Cumaru decking. This native South American
exotic hardwood, which grows naturally in Brazil, Surinam and Guyana,
is not only weather resistant but also drill bit resistant!
Dealing with hardwoods such as Cumaru or Brazilian Teak —which is
five times harder than pine, and that grows in straight trees as tall
as 160 ft., is extremely challenging. This Timber, Durability Class 1,
is long lasting, does not need a sealer, and offers very good resistance
to decay and termites. It wears excellently with the passing of time.
Du Charme's and Gueneu’s outstanding work was summarized by Forrest
Preece Staff, writer for West Austin News, in the following manner: “Another
touch —stainless steel screws in the decking so as not to bleed
onto the silky-finished Cumaru —a South American wood that has sensuous
feel when you walk on it; even if you are wearing shoes.” Their
work, with time will weather to a beautiful silver-gray patina giving
gracious dignity to the house.
“Chris is always a pleasure to be around and a very smart man.
He is as much at home building a house as he is surfing the Internet.”
Adds, Steve Wauson.
