With its breathtaking vistas of the capital city and a nearby lake, this West Lake Hills, Texas, abode is the epitome of tranquility. The master bath, however, didn't capitalize on the hilltop vantage point, and the owners longed for a deluxe retreat where they could soak away their cares. To make manifest their dreams, they called on Julia Dworschack and Steve Wauson of Steve Wauson's Custom Homes of Austin.

The big idea—to place the tub in a loft above the bath—was also the big challenge. The solution? The designers along with architect Mark Canada + Associates, “tricked out” the shower on the main level to create a comfy place for getting clean saving the loft tub for nighttime use. A cozy shower bench provides quiet repose. Elegant stone stairs and wainscot lead to the loft, with windows on both sides raised high enough to afford some privacy as well as stunning views.

Three different finishes adorn the travertine floor. The vertical surfaces feature polished surfaces, the floors and stair treads have a rustic finish, and small pieces of tumbled stone compose the shower floor. The elegant vanity boasts a single glass vessel with wall-mounted faucets and spout. Now the homeowners can take full advantage of their hilltop haven and bask in the sky-high views anytime day or night.
