Remodeled home’s strong lines, natural elements impress - Page F10

W
hat: A completely remodeled house in West lake Hills with waterfall by the front door and a pond in the back. Builder Steve Wauson the owner of Craftsman Homes of Austin, purchased this house, a duplex that had been built in 1986, in the summer of 2005.

Over the next year and a half, Wauson transformed the duplex into a light-filled single-family home highlighted by many custom wood features.

Wauson favors the Prairie and Craftsman architectural styles, characterized by strong horizontal lines. The home has Japanese design elements as well, with many wooden screens.

The two-story master bathroom is the most unusual feature. The bathroom lower level has a huge glass shower with a bench, a bidet, a toilet and a vessel sink made with a crystalline green bowl. The counters are made of Jerusalem limestone.

A 17-step travertine staircase, with glass mosaic tiles decorating the stairway walls, leads to the bathroom loft, which holds a jetted tub, you can look through the glass panels to the shower and bathroom below.

The three-story house has four bedrooms and 41/2 bathrooms, two-car garage and about 5,000 square feet of living space.

Where: Buckeye Trail, West Lake Hills

Amenities: A spring feeds the pond and waterfall; city water can also be used if springs run low during a drought.

Agents: Carole Martin, Martin & Co. - Keller Williams

Asking Price: $1,990,000 million - Sold
FYI: The house has playful tile and glass designs by Julia Dworschack, with insertions of buttons, shells, rocks, stones and marbles.

This house is on a private road that branches off Buckeye Trail. The lot is half an acre and has views of the surrounding hills.

You enter on the second floor. This main floor holds the foyer, the dinning room, living room, kitchen, laundry room, master bathroom, master bedroom, two more bedrooms and two more bathrooms.

The upper level holds a loft above the living room, which could be used as a playroom or sitting room (There is also a second story to the master bathroom.)

The bottom level has a game room, wet bar, bedroom and full bathroom. This bedroom opens out onto the patio and pond. The land behind the house is terraced with stone.

The market: The Austin Board of Realtors places this house in Area 8E. In December 2006, 23 houses sold in Area 8E, with a median price of $517,000. That compares with 27 houses sold in December 2005, with a median price of $547,500. It took about 37 days to sell a house in this area.
